As I Stand

As I stand in the shower,
Water pouring off my face,
Blood dripping from the wound,
And red water swirling down the drain,
I question.
I question all those question.
The ones man asks himself many times.
The ones about love
And the one many call God.
Why did he create such deceit,
Such confusion, such pain,
Such desire of this thing we call love?
I’ve heard many “fishing stories” about love,
About the one that got away
And the arguments about which catch was the best.

As I stand in the shower,
Water pouring off my face,
Blood dripping from the wound,
And pink water swirling down the drain,
I ask.
I ask myself why?
Why do we do all this for love?
Why do we act like children?
Why do we do such foolish things?
Why do we sacrifice it all?
Sacrifice the blood, the energy,
Money, power, and emotion,
Just to please one person,
Just for a small chance to get lucky,
Just for a slim chance of happiness.

As I stand in the shower,
Water pouring off my face,
Water dripping from my wound,
And crystal clear water swirling down the drain,
I answer.
I answer those very questions.
The questions I’ve asked myself.
It’s because we see others,
Others whose patience has paid off.
It’s because of survival,
Survival of the Human Race.
It’s because we need someone
And even if we claim dominance over the other animals,
We have one weakness we often over look.
It’s because we feel alone.
